History

OverviewOlder model Ambulance

The Mont Belvieu Volunteer Ambulance Service was created by City ordinance in 1982. Prior to that time ambulance service was provided by the Barbers Hill Volunteer Fire Department (now the Mont Belvieu Fire Department) and funeral homes in Dayton and Baytown. The service remained an all volunteer provider until 2003 when it converted to a fully paid service. Over the years the ambulance service has evolved from a "scoop and run" necessity to the highly technical and sophisticated prehospital emergency medical care system that it is today. The name of the service progressed along with the knowledge and techniques used during those times and became Mont Belvieu Emergency Medical Service.

In 1991 Mont Belvieu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) moved from its original one bay in the old Barbers Hill Volunteer Fire Department station on Loop 207 (Main Street), to its new station located at 11607 Eagle Drive at the intersection of Eagle and Farm to Market Road (FM) 565. The new, nine bay combination Fire / EMS Facility houses all of the EMS apparatus and administration offices as well as all of the Mont Belvieu Fire Department's apparatus and administration offices.

StaffNew Ambulance

Mont Belvieu EMS now employs 13 full-time paramedics, two part-time paramedics, and a medical director.

On September 1, 2006 we assumed the duties of the Office of Emergency Management / Homeland Security. In the short time  since that move, the EMS staff has all received the necessary training to perform their new assignments. The Emergency Operations Center was relocated and a Mobile Emergency Operations truck was placed into service.

Rapid Community Growth

The City of Mont Belvieu and all of West Chambers County are growing very rapidly as people discover the quality of life that we offer here in addition to our proximity to the greater Houston area. We will no doubt continue to see our call volumes rise as our area grows. Mont Belvieu EMS is proud of its long tradition of compassionate, professional, and dedicated service to our community and we look forward to what the future holds for us.
