The City of Mont Belvieu's Community Development Department staff works incredibly hard to make and keep Mont Belvieu an amazing place to live. That's why the American Planning Association - Texas Chapter named Mont Belvieu the "Community of the Year" at their annual conference in Waco. The organization stated in their recognition that Mont Belvieu is a case study in best practices in small town planning. They went on to note that the commitment by Mont Belvieu's City Council and industry and business partners to execute the plans laid out in the City's various strategic plans and studies, rather than just letting the documents sit on a shelf, has allowed the community to grow in a smart and positive way.
Mont Belvieu Mayor Nick Dixon stated, "We are so proud of Ricardo Villagrand, Ken Barnadyn, and all of the Community Development staff. With the growth Mont Belvieu has seen, they always have a lot on their plate. But, they always do a great job and it's wonderful to see them, and our City, recognized in this way." City Manager Nathan Watkins added, "The City has grown over 65% in the last 10 years and we are now the fourth fastest growing city in the Houston metro area. When you look at data like that, and the fact that we've been able to keep our hometown feel, that shows you what a great job our Community Development Department has done."
Not only was Mont Belvieu named "Community of the Year", the City's Community Development staff was also given Gold Awards for Resilience and for Urban Planning.
